The Do-In Way Gentle Exercises to Liberate the Body, Mind, and Spirit
KUSHI Michio

224pp

Do-In is an ancient traditional exercise for the cultivation of physical health, mental serenity, and spirituality. Over the last 5,000 years, it has served as the origin of such well-known modalities as shiatsu, acupuncture, moxibustion, yogic exercises, and meditation. Literally meaning to pull and stretch, Do-In originated in the Tao of Shin Sen as a way of achieving longevity and attaining the highest potential of mental and spiritual development. Do-In offers release from physical sickness, mental frustration and confusion, and intellectual and social disharmony.

Do-In techniques are a series of successive motions designed to harmonize body systems. The Do-In Way details the fundamental aspects of the exercise, which involves breathing, posture, and self-massage and manipulation to stimulate bodily systems. The gentle application of pressure on the body's meridians corresponds directly with physical processes, and allows for the conditioning and stimulation of internal organs. Do-In is a simple, gentle exercise for achieving oneness between the self and the external world, and for integrating that harmony into physical and spiritual nature.

The Do-In Way is a comprehensive handbook to this basic, primal form of exercise--the ancient system of movement designed to gently and safely enhance physical, mental, and spiritual health.

Michio Kushi is a leading world figure in the macrobiotic movement. His study of macrobiotics began more than fifty years ago under its founder, George Ohsawa. Since that time, Mr. Kushi has gone on to establish the highly respected Kushi Institute in Massachusetts, lectured extensively throughout the world, and authored over twenty books on health, nutrition, and the macrobiotic lifestyle. As a macrobiotic counselor, he has successfully guided thousands to restore their physical, psychological, and spiritual health. Michio Kushi resides in Brookline, Massachusetts.

Sei-Ki Life in Reasonance - The Secret Art of Shiatsu
KISHI Akinobu, WHIELDON Alice

176pp

The therapeutic art of shiatsu is now widely practised in the West, yet practitioners find it difficult to acquire the training that will take them beyond the mechanistic level.

For many years Akinobu Kishi has been visiting the West to teach, but never before has his approach been recorded in book form. Regarded as one of the leading exponents of shiatsu, Kishi trained with and assisted Shizuto Masunaga, and is widely regarded as the heir to his work, developed to the higher level of Seiki Soho, which takes the practice beyond technique. With the assistance of his long-term student Alice Whieldon, Kishi's theory and practice of Seiki Soho are described and explained for the first time in this important book. Setting his work within the historical context of shiatsu, the long central section of the book consists of a dialogue about the fundamental principles and practice of Masunaga's Zen Shiatsu and Seiki Soho as taught by Kishi. The final section consists of case studies of practice, including the experiences of people treated by Kishi.

This groundbreaking and generous book is illustrated with Kishi's calligraphy and other artwork, and will be essential reading for all shiatsu practitioners and students who want to deepen their practice, and a rich and rewarding read for anyone interested in Eastern approaches to life and healing.

About the Authors
Akinobu Kishi is an internationally-renowned teacher and master of Zen Shiatsu. He developed his own method of bodywork, Seiki Soho, after studying extensively in the fields of Shiatsu, Haruchika Noguchi's Seitai and bio-energetics until, coming up against the limits of shiatsu, he experienced a profound change in consciousness out of which Seiki Soho emerged. Born in 1949 in the Gunma region of Japan, Kishi was originally taught by his father, an accomplished judo master, who introduced him to manual therapy when he was just 9 years old. His formal training took place at Tokujiro Namikoshi's Japan Shiatsu College and at the Iokai Centre in Tokyo with Shizuto Masunaga, the father of Zen Shiatsu. Kishi assisted Masunaga for 10 years, and is now widely regarded as the heir to his work.

Alice Whieldon is a shiatsu practitioner and teacher as well as a tutor and senior manager with the Open University in London. She began her training in 1991, meeting Akinobu Kishi in 1998, and has worked closely with him ever since. (For this item please quote stock ID 35619) ISBN: 9781848190429
