 Holistic Microneedling (Cover Image)

Holistic Microneedling provides an accessible guide to one of the most rapidly growing phenomenon’s in the cosmetic world. It is currently unique in the literary world in this endeavour. More importantly Holistic Microneedling demonstrates how to incorporate the scientifically effective techniques of microneedling into a natural and holistic framework. This allows clinicians and the home users to apply truly natural beauty techniques that are effective and convenient to use. This has become something of a holy grail for the beauty industry in recent years with ever increasing demand for natural treatments being met by waves of impractical or ineffective new treatments.

The book achieves these rather lofty designs by incorporating the modern microneedling techniques and research into the well-established framework of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). TCM provided the first recorded use of cosmetic skin needling in the form of cosmetic acupuncture so the techniques slot quite smoothly into existing treatment protocols. The author’s unique position of straddling two markets in the cosmetic and natural therapies allow a smooth and readable blend of the different philosophies.

The book is conveniently divided into 3 sections. The first section provides the background. In this section we define microneedling and clarify several myths so we can go forward with a solid understanding of the subject being discussed. We then examine the history and make the clear link between traditional acupuncture practices and modern microneedling. A detailed study of the science behind microneedling and its mechanism of action then ensue. This is very important as microneedling is backed by a strong body of evidence. It is known to be able to increase the body’s own collagen production by up to a 1,000% after a single treatment and increase transdermal absorption by up to 10,000 times. Facts like this are hard to ignore and provide legitimacy to microneedling treatments. We conclude this section by examining just what microneedling can treat and compare it to the other major cosmetic treatments on the market. This chapter acts a little like a shopping guide allowing consumers and clinicians to compare the pluses and minuses of switching to microneedling as their main cosmetic treatment.

In the second section we discuss the 3 principles of holistic microneedling. The author has envisioned 3 principles as by creating principles rather than only simply techniques we can create a framework which will allow holistic microneedling to continue to grow and innovate rather than simply practice another treatment protocol. The 3 principles of using only natural products, using the least invasive microneedling techniques possible and always enhancing health during treatment are then defined and their application explained in detail.

The third section is entitled ‘Putting it all together’. It is in essence a practical description of how to perform holistic microneedling treatments. It includes detailed description of the techniques, potential pitfalls and after care. It is written in a way that it can be referred back to during treatments without having to reread the earlier theory. It includes several practical tables to refer to along with helpful photos from the author’s clinics.

The book concludes with an uplifting overview of the potential future of microneedling and a selection of before and after photos. The book is illustrated throughout by a variety of photos from the author’s clinic and diagrams.
