Various techniques are used, including fine brush work 'with attention to detail, broad strokes for essence and spirit, absence of outline and water-ink.' Huang Miaozi, a well-known fine arts theorist, has contributed a valuable article explaining the characteristics of Chinese painting. He also gives a brief introduction to each of the album’s paintings and to each artist.
